Educational
Objectives & Evaluations
In this resident
training program, we believe it is extremely important to establish
educational objectives for each of the rotations in which the
residents will participate.
These objectives clearly define the
expected experiential outcome in the realm of clinical knowledge
base, outpatient ambulatory exposure and expectations for surgical
experience.
The residents are asked to become familiar with these
goals and expectations prior to starting the rotation and tailor
their experience such that each is met.
Resident
evaluation also is extremely important to the Governance Committee.
Each of the evaluation form has been specifically
targeted to the rotation for which the resident is being evaluated and to the year of training.
This will allow us to know whether
or not the resident has achieved the educational goals of the
rotation.
The evaluations encompass the knowledge base, clinical acumen and technical skills that the resident should have acquired during
the rotation experience. Additionally, a section specifically
asks whether the resident has achieved certain "milestones" that
would indicate that the resident successfully integrated the expectations
into meaningful global skills.
Evaluations can be completed through the password protected New Innovations website (link coming soon).

We
are happy to share our educational objectives and evaluation forms
with other residency program directors. They are attached below
as a pdf file to be downloaded.
Obviously,
these educational objectives and evaluation forms are effective
in our own residency program and may be modified for use in other
residencies, depending on the specific desired knowledge base
and skills for each clinical rotation.
We always welcome comments
or criticism of our approach to establishing objectives and evaluating
our residents and would be happy to hear from you at any time.
