Thoracic Surgery Residency Program Application Information

The thoracic surgery residency program at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center is a fully-accredited, two-year training program, which accepts one new resident each year. Participation in the National Resident Matching Program insures that the requirements of the ACGME and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery are met in the selection process. NRMP universal applications are accepted, and invitations for interviews are offered to qualified applicants. An applicant is expected to complete general surgery residency training in an accredited program, and the applicant must be board eligible in general surgery by the time they enter this program.

As part of the application, our program requires the following information:

  • NRMP universal application.
  • Three letters of recommendation (one must be from your General Surgery Department Chair)
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Recent passport size photograph

The deadline for receipt of NRMP applications is February 1, 2004. Our cardiothoracic surgery faculty members review all applications. Applicants will be invited for interview where they will tour the facilities, meet the faculty and speak with residents in the program.

In order to be employed as a resident at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, an applicant without United States citizenship must have a permanent or a J-1 visa, and valid ECFMG certificate. Any non-U.S. citizen wishing to participate must possess a J-1 visa that permits direct patient care.

If there are any questions, please contact Mary Dong, Program Coordinator, at 520-626-4341 or e-mail dongm@u.arizona.edu.
